I can say that joining Rotary has been the best thing that I've done in my life without question.

Whilst on a break ‘in between jobs’, I decided to catch up with David Reed who has been part of the Rotary family for 47 years and counting. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Perth and a Past President for both the Rotary Clubs of Perth and Kalgoorlie. He has won every Rotary accolade and award under the sun, including the Service Above Self Award that has only been awarded to 150 people.
Volunteer Service Organisations like Rotary, Lions, Apex, and Rotaract provide a noble service to the community. In smaller communities, these services are often quite critical to maintain and sustain the environment, health, safety and wellbeing of people in our communities.
A major challenge we face as volunteer organisations is how do we attract and retain volunteers to sustain our good works?
Some of us are high on sociability, social boldness and social self-esteem, and we are comfortable meeting new people and starting a conversation that needs no preparation. However, on the other end, some individuals are shy, introverted or lack the confidence to meet and greet people. Does the latter sound like you? Then, this event was for YOU!
On the 9th of July, REQ and Beaufort Rotary Club had our first ever joint agile planning session! With a bunch of design thinking activities from master facilitator Nick Lim, the two clubs developed and workshoped 5 events that are now ready to be released like beautiful birds from their eggs into the world! RotaryEQ continues to respond to expressions of interest following Episode 1 of our Neighbourly Helping Hand series of volunteering opportunities. With a fistful of whippersnippers and rakes, the crew completely transformed the yard of a property in a women's disability co-op housing complex.
Rotary is here to uplift and elevate all members of the community. As a Rotarians we consider ourselves to be servants of the community, so of course we helped Clare. Spread this message far and wide, that It's OK to ask for help.

Over the course of 8 months in a series of 3 workshops, REQ projects team collaborated with Vinnie’s English Language Centre based in Nollamara, to provide an opportunity for refugee and migrant participants to co-design some life-skills workshops facilitated by REQ members and subject matter experts.
