Homelessness
Vinnies Volunteers - Photo Gallery - 28 August 2021
Whilst on a break ‘in between jobs’, I decided to catch up with David Reed who has been part of the Rotary family for 47 years and counting. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Perth and a Past President for both the Rotary Clubs of Perth and Kalgoorlie. He has won every Rotary accolade and award under the sun, including the Service Above Self Award that has only been awarded to 150 people.
During the Vinnies Clothes Sort Out events, a group of club members and volunteers teamed up and spent 4 hours learning the step-by-step process how donations received are processed from the moment they are donated to how the items make their way to the stores across Western Australia.
Catwalk Opshop Collection, a charity fundraiser event run by Rotary of Elizabeth Quay strived to meet three main objectives. These were to create awareness for an incredible cause, promote op-shopping and to bring the community together. On all three points, the event was an overwhelming success!
How a donation of earrings magically helped support Western Australians in transitional housing, and keep people safe from homelessness. We thank Shiels for the kind donation.
Rotary Elizabeth Quay is committed to supporting initiatives that will reduce and ideally end homelessness in Western Australia. We recognise the complexity of the problem and acknowledge the need for considerable expertise in conjunction with a collaborative and coordinated approach. Given this, Rotary Elizabeth Quay participate in the Homeless Hub working group within District 9455 and have recently partnered with the Western Australian Alliance to End Homelessness.
