GREENBATCH - PUBLIC OPEN DAYS - MONTHLY VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES - 2019 / 2020

Are you aware that Australia produces over 1.3 million tonnes of plastic per year? Or that by 2050 it is predicted that there will be more plastic in the ocean that fish? And did you know that in Australia a significant amount of the contents of your yellow recycling bin actually ends up in landfill?

With the recent changes in export agreements Australians can no longer send their waste overseas. Now is an opportune time to be a waste management innovator!

Greenbatch is WA's first plastic reprocessing plant. Serving as a depot, reprocessing plant and educational facility Greenbatch receives used PET and HDPE plastic consumables which are then sent to reprocessing facilities or converted into 3D printing filament for schools to build and create with.

Started by fellow Rotarian Darren Loman, Greenbatch is a home-grown response to an increasing environmental problem. Rotary Elizabeth Quay has supported Darren throughout the development and implementation of Greenbatch and more recently via hands on volunteering of members at the facility. This green initiative continues to gain popularity across schools, local businesses (Woolworths, Bunnings) and local community groups.

Calling out the impact our day to day choices make, that is the message Greenbatch is sending. If we value the beauty of where we live, we can’t simply disregard the care our environment deserves
— Alex Truelove, President Elizabeth Quay
